Craig Emerson Bruney

October 15, 1949 — August 29, 2022

Craig Emerson Bruney died at the age of 72 from alcoholism. Sober Craig had one of the most giving hearts you will find. He loved helping others and would make a total stranger his friend by his sense of humor and quick wit. His love for alcohol changed who he was and who he was supposed to be in this life.  Alcohol was so powerful to him that he reached for it over his two daughters, five grandchildren, and four great grandchildren.  He never knew them. Alcoholism robbed him of every holiday and special life moment, and it gave him more contentment than anything or anyone else. With no bitterness from his biological daughters, we still wanted to do our best to reach the addict possibly reading this obituary or to the one having to fill the abandonment and void for not being chosen over drugs or alcoholism. It’s a disease the person has. It’s not the identity of the one caring for them.

You are worthy of love

You are worthy of being chosen

You don’t have to make the same choices the addict chose to make You are valuable

YOU CAN BE THE DIFFERENCE YOU NEEDED FROM THEM AND NEVER GOT.

Pray for the addict. Pray for their soul. Their soul matters just as much as anyone else’s. God sees them and does not want you to feel guilty over their choices. He wants us to make different choices than the addict made.

He is survived by his biological daughters, Missy Folds (Scott) and Dana Rodrigue (Patrick); two sisters, Melba Bellomo (Jay) and Devern Fuselier (Bobby); and one brother, Dale Bruney (Kelly).  He is preceded in death by two brothers, Rick Bruney and Steve Bruney and two sisters, Ethel Parker and Connie LaCour (Lester).

Many thanks to the staff at Saint Patrick Hospital and for the wonderful nurses and staff at Harbor hospice for going above and beyond during this time and, also to Simple Traditions Funeral Home.
