Wife, mother, grand and great-grandmother passed peacefully surrounded by family on January 27, 2025. If you don’t recognize the name listed, it’s because her inner hippie changed it to Heather in the “flower power” 70’s.
She was born in Manhattan, not NY, but Kansas, to the late James David and Margaret Ray with two surviving siblings, David Ray and Evelyn Spell. After making their way to the great State of Louisiana, they chose to reside in DeQuincy where she graduated from high school. Heather decided to leave again by joining the military, the Air Force to be exact. She enlisted in 1975 and was Honorably Discharged in 1979 but not before picking up a husband while they were stationed in Europe. No, he wasn’t from Europe, he was born and raised in Texas. Heather and Mario Ramos were married on March 17, 1978, at Hargrove Bible Baptist Church in DeQuincy. Yes, you read that right, those two came back from Europe to marry in DeQuincy. They were married an impressive forty-six years, almost forty-seven this March. Heather was a medic in the Air Force. She went on to pursue an LPN degree after the military, then became an RN because why not?! She worked in several hospitals and doctors’ offices until she said, “Nah, I’m good.”
Heather was blessed with two children, Amy and Julie Ramos, four grandchildren, Blake Dawson, Jace Dawson, Nayomi Campanile, Kinsley Dawson, and a great-grandbaby, Bodhi Dawson.
She loved people with her whole being and would bring you into the family whether you wanted in or not. She had a heart of gold and enough love to go around. She wanted nothing but happiness for everyone. She was quick-witted and funnier than most, even at the end. She fought long and hard but decided she’d see us again in Heaven, where she will be eating ALL of the lemons. She will truly be missed by all until we get there. Give everyone hugs and kisses.
