Ernest Joseph Batchan, Jr.

August 26, 1958 — May 30, 2024

Ernest Joseph Batchan, Jr. was called home Thursday, May 30, 2024.

He was the eldest of five children born to the late Mary Lou (Bellard) and Ernest Joseph Batchan, Sr..  He was born August 26, 1958 in Lake Charles, LA.

He was a graduate of Washington High School, class of 1976. During his school years, he played the Trumpet in the band and enjoyed playing baseball.

Although Louisiana held his heart and he called it home, he answered the call to serve his country in the United States Army. He served from 1979 to 1988 as a Telecommunications Center Operator and Administrative Specialist before receiving an honorable discharge. As he loved his country, he also loved the opportunities and experiencing serving brought, including being stationed in Germany.

Following his service, he moved to Dallas, TX where he worked for Lockheed Martin as a Aviation Electrician until returning home. He also worked for Boeing which later became Northrup Grumman until his retirement.

Upon accepting his job in Dallas, in 1991 he married Carolyn, together they welcomed three children and shared thirty-one years of marriage. He was a proud father and husband, no matter what they came first. Whether coaching their various sports teams or assisting with the teams any way he could. He was giving, meticulous, intelligent, a jack of all trades-there was not a problem he couldn’t master, humorous, and a bit of a jokester. He raised his children to be open-minded, ensuring common sense was at the forefront. As an exceptional fisherman, no matter the season, he knew which honey hole to cast his line for the catch of the day. When he was not fishing he enjoyed bowling and watching his Washington Redskins.

He was welcomed into Heaven by his beloved parents, Mary Lou (Bellard) and Ernest Joseph Batchan, Sr..

Those left to cherish his memory; his beloved children, Demetrius Coleman and wife Jennifer Coleman of Lake Charles, Desmond Batchan and wife Lilianne Redd of Layton, UT, Katrina Batchan(Freddie) of Lake Charles, LA; ten grandchildren; two sisters, Donnetta Colston and husband Clifton Jr. of Lake Charles & Edwina Ary of Spring, TX; two brothers, Brian K.
