Gail Sargent, 83, of Lake Charles, passed away Wednesday February 26, 2025 surrounded by her family.
Gail was born in New Orleans to Henry and Lola Marie Lengendre Strain. When she was 16, a charming young man walked up to her in their high school gym and said “you are the girl I’m going to marry.” Just two short years later, they became husband and wife, a union that spanned 65 years. For a majority of that time the two were always together.
Gail made every day and occasion as special as she could for her family. Her motto was, “if the kids couldn’t go, neither did they.” Their closeness made the many camping trips, family get togethers and holidays always special. She was an excellent seamstress, making everything from Barbie clothes to prom dresses. A true Cajun at heart, she would rather have crawfish over diamonds any day.
She is proceeded in death by her parents, two sisters, Alba Savannah and Gerry Cambre and one brother Henry Strain.
Those left to cherish her memory are her best friend and beloved husband Larry J Sargent Sr; children, Larry J Sargent, Jr. (Belinda); Dody Gleason (Damon); Tammy Choates (Ben) and Penny Cannon (William); 10 grandchildren, 9 great grandchildren and a pack of grand dogs and clowder of grand cats.
The family wishes to thank the physicians, nurses and entire staff of Harbor Hospice for their compassionate and professional care, dedication and support to the entire family.
As to her wishes, no formal services will be observed. Cremation has been entrusted with Simple Traditions by Johnson Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to St Jude’s Childrens Research Hospital, https://www.stjude.org/donate/donate-to-st-jude.html or charity of choice.
