Paul Phillip Wasson was called Home on June 23, 2022. He was born on July 12, 1952, in Owosso, MI. As a child of a Nazarene preacher, he called many places home throughout his childhood. In 1971, he graduated from Westlake High School and chose to settle down in Southwest, LA. After marrying the love of his life in 1980, he moved to Sweet Lake, LA and self-appointed himself an official transplanted cajun. After Paul graduated from Westlake High School, he went to work at PPG/Westlake Chemical South, where he worked in Operations for 38 years and was a volunteer member of the PPG Emergency Squad. He was also a member of the Grand Lake Volunteer Fire Department. Following his retirement, he worked part-time for Cameron Council on Aging and KELB Radio Station.
Paul was well known for his great singing voice and was a member of several Southern Gospel Groups throughout the years. He loved to listen to all Christian music and shared Southern Gospel Music with anyone who would listen. He never met a stranger and once he considered you family, no matter the blood, you immediately became a family member.
Those left to cherish his memory are his wife of 42 years, Laura Lynn Hebert Wasson; his sister, Rebecca Wasson of Oklahoma City, OK; son, Robert Paul Wasson and his favorite daughter-in-law, Tiffany; daughters, Laura Reed and husband Kevin; and Cheryl Williams and husband Jeff; his “P & J” (pride and joy) grandchildren, Bryce Dartez, Karli Leger, Kayli Leger, Hunter Primeaux, Rev Primeaux, Jade Michem, Kevin Spell, Lexi Reed, Carter Reed, Matt Williams, Nathan Williams, and James Hogue; his “Nother-one-family” siblings, Alton, Michael, Nate, Jimmy, Pete, and Debra Ashby.
He was preceded in death by his brother, Kevin Lowell Wasson; his parents, Rev. Robert Wasson, and Freda Huckins Wasson; daughter, Kristi Wasson; and granddaughter, Kristin Leger.
The family would like to express their sincerest gratitude to the Lake Charles Memorial Staff on the 8th floor (cardiac), Cath Lab, ICU, Dialysis Department, Nephrology Department & TAVR Team for their kindness and compassion shown to the family throughout the last month of his life.
There will be a Celebration of Life Service at 2:00 PM on Saturday, July 2, 2022 at Grand Lake Faith Temple in Grand Lake, LA.
