It is with heavy hearts and profound sadness that we share the passing of a dear member of our community, Wattie Eugene VanSlyke. Born on September 24, 1977, in Lake Charles, LA, Wattie unfortunately left us on October 5, 2024, at the age of 47. A cheerful soul known for his laughter and kindness, Wattie was a hardworking carpenter in the residential construction industry. He was self-employed and took immense pride in his craft.
He was preceded in death by his father, Richard Wayne VanSlyke.
Wattie will be dearly missed by his surviving relatives,his wife, Lashonda Lewis; children, Weston VanSlyke, Marshall Richard, Kamie, James, & Rae-Rae Lewis, and Logan Dylan; two grandchildren, mother, June M. Terziu; a sister, Rebecca (Corey) Ocon, Leah (Paul) Bilky, and Richard VanSlyke; aunts and uncles, Judy (Garland) Manuel, Beverly Clanton, Julia Gaskins, Woodrow Vanslyke, Judie Page, Esther Herring, Lori Brooks, and Roland Drounett; many nieces, nephews, and extended family.Despite his sudden departure, his memory will continue to live on through the love and fondness he shared with his family and friends.
Visitation will be held on October 14, 2024, at Simple Traditions by Johnson, beginning at 11:00 am. The funeral service will follow at 1:00 pm, also at Simple Traditions by Johnson with burial to follow at Farquar Cemetery.
As we prepare to bid farewell to Wattie, let us gather to celebrate his life and the impact he had on all of us. Let us remember the joy he brought into our lives and the warmth of his presence. May his memory be eternal, and his spirit forever shine bright in our hearts.
